SAFETY REMARKS GENERAL INFORMATION

• Do not use your camera in the immediate vicinity of devices that generate powerful magnetic, electrostatic or electromagnetic fields (e.g. induction ovens, microwave ovens, television sets or computer screens, video game consoles, cell phones, broadcasting equipment). Their electromagnetic fields can interfere with image capturing.
• Strong magnetic fields, e.g. from speakers or large electric motors, can damage the stored data or disrupt shooting.
• Switch off the camera, remove the battery briefly, replace it and switch the camera back on in case of a malfunction due to electromagnetic fields.
• Do not use the camera in the immediate vicinity of radio transmitters or high-voltage power lines. Their electromagnetic fields may also interfere with image capturing.
• Always store small parts such as the accessory shoe cover out of the reach of children and in a safe location where they will not get lost or stolen.
• Electronic components are sensitive to static discharge. Walking on synthetic floor coverings can generate several 10,000 volts. A static discharge can occur when you touch the camera, especially if it is placed on a conductive surface. A discharge on the housing is harmless, but external contacts such as those in the flash shoe should be avoided.
• Take care not to soil or scratch the sensor for lens detection in the bayonet. Prevent contact with grains of sand or similar particles. Clean this component only with a dry cloth (in system cameras).
• Use a cotton or linen cloth instead of a synthetic microfiber cloth for cleaning the contacts. Discharge static electricity beforehand by touching a grounded metal object. Dirt and oxidation can be avoided by storing the camera in a dry place with the lens cap and flash shoe/viewfinder cap attached.
• Only use accessories specified for this model to prevent malfunctions, short circuits, or electric shocks.
• Do not attempt to remove parts of the housing. Repairs must be carried out by authorized service centers only.
• Protect the camera from insect sprays and aggressive chemicals. Do not use petroleum spirit, thinner, or alcohol for cleaning. These can damage the housing or surface coating.
• Do not keep rubber or plastic materials in contact with the camera for extended periods.
• Prevent sand, dust, and water from entering the camera, especially when changing the lens, battery, or memory card. Moisture can cause malfunctions and irreparable damage.

LENS

• A lens can act as a magnifying glass when exposed to direct sunlight. Protect the camera from prolonged exposure to strong light.
• Attach the lens cap and keep the camera in the shade or its case to avoid internal damage.

RECHARGEABLE BATTERY

• Improper use or the use of unapproved battery types may result in an explosion.
• Do not expose batteries to sunlight, heat, humidity, or moisture for prolonged periods. Do not place them in a microwave oven or high-pressure container – risk of fire or explosion!
• Never charge or insert a damp or wet battery into the camera.
• A safety valve ensures controlled pressure release. Dispose of bloated batteries immediately – explosion hazard!
• Keep battery contacts clean and free from metal objects. A short-circuited battery can become hot and cause burns.
• If a battery is dropped, check it for damage before use. Damaged batteries can harm the camera.
• Remove and replace the battery immediately if it emits odor, discoloration, deformation, overheating, or leakage. Continued use may cause fire or explosion.
• Never throw batteries into fire – they may explode.
• Keep leaking batteries away from heat sources. Leaked fluid can ignite.
• Only use chargers approved by Leica Camera AG. Unapproved chargers may cause damage or serious injury.
• Ensure the power socket is easily accessible.
• Do not open the battery or charger. Repairs must be performed by authorized workshops only.
• Keep batteries out of reach of children. Swallowing may cause suffocation.

FIRST AID

• Battery fluid can cause blindness if it contacts the eyes. Rinse with clean water immediately and seek medical attention.
• Leaked battery fluid on skin or clothing can cause injury. Rinse thoroughly with clean water.

CHARGER

• Using the charger near broadcasting receivers may cause interference. Keep a distance of at least 1 m.
• A buzzing sound during charging is normal and not a malfunction.
• Disconnect the charger when not in use to prevent unnecessary power consumption.
• Keep charger contacts clean and never short-circuit them.
• Only use the supplied mains cables and charger unit. Do not use them for other purposes.

MEMORY CARD

• Do not remove the memory card during data saving or reading. Do not switch off the camera or expose it to shock during access.
• Do not open the card/battery compartment while the status LED is lit. Data loss or malfunction may occur.
• Do not drop or bend memory cards as this may cause data loss.
• Do not touch the contacts. Keep them clean and dry.
• Keep memory cards out of the reach of children. Swallowing may cause suffocation.

SENSOR

• Cosmic radiation (e.g. during flights) may cause pixel defects.

CARRY STRAP

• Carry straps are robust materials and should be kept away from children due to strangulation risk.
• Use the strap only for its intended purpose with a camera or binoculars. Misuse may cause injury or damage.
• Do not use the strap during sports with entanglement risks (e.g. climbing).

TRIPOD

• Ensure the tripod stands securely. Turn the tripod, not the camera, when adjusting. Tighten the screw only hand-tight.
• Do not carry the camera with the tripod attached – injury or damage may occur.

FLASH

• Using incompatible flash units with the Leica D-Lux 8 may cause irreparable damage to the camera or flash.

IMPORTANT NOTES ON CHARGING VIA USB

• Use a switching adapter with max. 100 W output that complies with the USB-PD standard.
• Ensure compliance with IEC62368-1 safety standards (ES1, PS2 – 60 V or less, 100 W or less).
• Contact the adapter manufacturer if unsure about safety compliance.
